What Foods are Allowed on the Medifast Diet

When a person invests in a diet plan, they want to know what foods are allowed and which ones are not acceptable. Many already know the well-known culprits, but some lesser known foods that are not allowed on the Medifast diet plan may surprise you. Thankfully, Medifast has accomplished their goal by clearly explaining the program to users of the diet.

The basic foods that you will be receiving from Medifast will be the same each day. Your job is planning around those meals every day. Specifically, the responsibility you have is grocery shopping for the lean and green portions of your meal. This is important because what you want may not necessarily be what you can have.

Since the lean portion is an essential part, you must know what is allowed. For the vegetarian it is these choices: tofu—which is a very common item used by vegetarians—Boca Burgers, and Morningstar Patties.

Moving over to the meat and poultry we will have to take into consideration the fat for your lean portions which involves the size. With fish, with a few exceptions, 7 ounces is about right. Fish high in fat content will have to be smaller in size—an example is Chilean Sea Bass.

For those who prefer beef or pork, your size will be 5 ounces. Eggs are another choice for the vegetarian. You can have either fourteen egg whites or three whole eggs. Keep in mind the whole eggs are more fattening and you are limited to having them no more than once a week.

Moving over to the green portion of your well planned-meal, please note that there will not be any high carbohydrates – no corn, carrots, or potatoes. Based on the carbohydrate levels, you will eat your portion according to the size allowed. Spinach and lettuce; one cup is allowed. Cauliflower and asparagus; a half cup is the accepted amount. According to the plan for Medifast, three cups of leafy greens is permissible or a half cup of peppers. Try a half cup portabella mushrooms with one cup of leafy greens. Thus, a colorful and appetizing meal can be prepared.

Depending on the protein choices, Medifast does provide for extra fat to be added to your diet. The reason for this is because some vitamins and minerals are only fat soluble. The following is a list of foods where you can obtain the necessary fat: olive oil, black olives, canola oil, low carbohydrate salad dressing, and trans-fat-free margarine.

As you can see there are many types of
foods allowed on Medifast
, But at this point you may also have noticed some very common foods have been removed from your diet. Probably, you may be missing a number of your favorite white foods such as potatoes, rice, white flour and any type of food high in carbohydrates.

Nevertheless, you still have a good variety of healthy, nutritional food to maintain your health and lose weight. The end result will be great. Accomplishing the goal is more important than eating undesirable, unhealthy foods that cause sickness and disease. Extending your life by years and living a blessed life is to be greatly appreciated.
